Especially for your volunteers we have designed an Induction week, where you get the chance to learn Spanish, experience some adventure and live local life in one of the hottest surf spots of Ecuador. It is the perfect way to prepare yourself for your volunteering project and travelling in Ecuador. Montañita is a very laid-back surfer’s town on the Pacific coast.
Our program is aimed to offer you a full hand of skills to have a real immersive experience.

The south coast of Ecuador is a beautiful region with long sandy beaches, quiet fishing towns and great waves to surf on. Montañita is known as a surfer’s paradise and has a vibrant nightlife.
Because of the good waves, Montañita is one of the most important places in whole Latin America to host the surfer tournaments. It is part of Santa Elena province and it attracts a young crowd, but visitors from all ages come to enjoy the beach and the many bars and stalls you find selling street food or fresh juices.
The coastal climate is usually warm and dry. Overall, it is the perfect place to unplug, sit back and enjoy the ocean with a fresh juice in your hand.

A NORMAL DAY
LEARNING SPANISH
On Monday you will meet your teacher and companions at the school and you will start this fun learning process. Your classes are scheduled 4 hours of Spanish and one surf class a day from Monday to Friday, Saturday is a free day to relax and surf. On Sunday is the end of program, ready for your volunteer work and travel adventures
The ACCOMMODATION
You will be staying in a very nice and cozy hostel, greatly located and with a very nice staff. Their goal is to make you feel the hostel as your second home; that is the reason why so many people return year after year.
The place has open spaces, hammocks and a pool! Also free WIFI is available.
WHAT TO DO IN
YOUR FREE TIME
For sure surf is one of the most popular activity, but beach sports are a must. Join other beachgoers for a game of soccer or volleyball on the sand. Another popular pastime is yoga, and you’ll find plenty of people practicing their downward dog or mountain pose in the quieter areas of the beach.
Two hours from Montañita by boat you’ll find the Isla de la Plata. It is the home of hundreds of bird species like the blue-footed booby or the frigate bird. The tours often include snorkeling or diving in the zone. You can book a tour with a reliable agency in the town of Montañita itself. The island can also be toured on foot, but only in the company of qualified guides.
Diving and snorkeling are available, and the warm, equatorial waters of Montañita are the perfect place to spot exotic fish species and marine wildlife.
Between July and November there are boat tours to see humpback whales, which make the journey all the way from Antarctica to mate and give birth in the warm waters off Ecuador’s coast.
